City Gas, Singapore’s piped town gas and natural gas utilities provider, has pledged a new initiative to support lower income households with a safer kitchen environment. With “Warming Hearts, in the Heartlands” as the designated theme for this initiative, 15 lower income households would have their old gas hobs replaced with the City Gas gas hob with timer control. The new gas hob is designed with safety features such as a built-in digital timer control, which is especially beneficial for the elderly who may forget to turn off their gas hobs during cooking.
City Gas staff volunteers would also spread cheer to these beneficiaries by paying them a visit to deliver food hampers containing pantry food and essential cooking ingredients such as rice, oil, salt, sugar.
Mr Kenny Tan, CEO of City Gas, shared, “City Gas believes in taking an active interest in supporting the community. We also encourage our staff to participate in our quarterly corporate social responsibility programmes that are organised to bring comfort, cheer and aid to the elderly, children or underprivileged. We believe that this initiative will help to make a positive impact to the beneficiaries and provide a safer kitchen environment for them.”
City Gas partnered North West Community Development Council (CDC) for this initiative. Being closer to the ground, North West CDC worked with its divisional welfare committees to connect beneficiaries receiving financial assistance in the North West District to City Gas. Initial visits to lower income households were carried out to assess suitability and condition of existing gas hobs.
About the City Gas gas hob with timer control
Co-developed with Aerogaz, the gas hob with timer control comes with exclusive safety features not available in other brands of gas hobs and enables users to cook with precision and peace of mind. Users can set the time required for cooking directly on the gas hob. When the pre-set time is reached, the timer control feature immediately cuts off gas supply and sounds off an audible alarm.
If the flame accidentally goes out, a flame failure device will automatically cut off gas supply to prevent any gas leakage. In addition, the enamelled cast-iron pan support on each burner provides great stability during cooking. Powered by piped gas, users will enjoy a safe, reliable and continuous supply of gas.
Since its launch in 2015, the gas hob with timer control is one of the best-selling gas hobs at the City Gas Gallery. Interested customers can visit the Gallery located at PWC Building, Level 2 or Woodlands Civic Centre, #03-07.
