Singapore’s longest running hawker food contest is back this year with a new award category – People’s Choice International Food Award. Co-organised by City Gas, Singapore’s town gas and natural gas utilities provider, and Shin Min Daily News, City Hawker Food Hunt is in its 12th year with strong support from its partners, Health Promotion Board, National Environment Agency and Singapore Tourism Board. The event was launched at Bedok South Market & Food Centre this morning.
Mr Kenny Tan, Chief Executive Officer, City Gas, together with Mr Bernard Choo, Editor, Shin Min Daily News, kicked off the event by casting their nominations on City Hawker Food Hunt’s website, www.cityhawkerfoodhunt.com. Said Mr Kenny Tan, “City Gas is proud for City Hawker Food Hunt to be the platform where people from all walks of life can nominate their favourite hawkers across 111 hawker centres. We strongly support the promotion of hawker food as it is a much cherished culture in our local community. City Hawker Food Hunt accolades and cash incentives are some of the ways we reward our hawkers as they dish out their best every day.”
Members of the public can nominate any of their preferred hawker stalls in the Local Food, International Food and Healthier Choice categories from 23 July to 15 September 2019. (Please refer to Annex A for details.) The top ten hawker stalls with the most number of nominations in each category will be presented with the People’s Choice Hawker Stall award, and hawker stalls achieving the highest number of nominations will enter the People’s Choice Hall of Fame to win a $1,000 cash reward each. Participants of the nomination stand a chance to win a 2D1N staycation at Park Regis Singapore.
To support environmental sustainability and encourage the public to nominate their favourite hawker stalls, City Hawker Food Hunt gave away 800 sets of reusable cutlery this afternoon. The public can redeem one set each (first come first served) at these hawker centres: 127 Toa Payoh Lorong 1, Maxwell Food Centre, 221 Boon Lay Place, Marsiling Mall Hawker Centre, 44 Holland Drive and Geylang Bahru Market and Food Centre.
